In this 2021 Trips Series we will take a look at all the trips we’ll be undertaking in 2021. Next on the list; the insanity of this Cat Ski Adventure in the deserted and vast whiteness of the Shar Mountain Range in Macedonia.

Join Johan and his Cloud Nine compatriots in Macedonia on the annual cat-ski trip. Okay, so it’s not a helicopter, you’ve got us there. But still, the experience is awfully similar.

Who is Cloud Nine?

Cloud9 travel is the exclusive agent for Europe's oldest and most experienced cat ski organization. In the 1990s, a group of high school students were forced to build an igloo to spend the night during an adventure in the Sharplanina mountains. Inspired by this intense experience, the first snowcat operator in Europe, Eskimo Freeride, was founded fifteen years later.

Where are we going?

The home base of Eskimo Freeride is Popova Šapka at an altitude of 1,687 meters. Popova Šapka is located in the west of Macedonia, about 70 kilometers from the capital Skopje and in the middle of the old Shar Mountains. Popova Šapka used to be a large ski village but has fallen into disrepair over the last 30 years. With the wide landscape and open terrain, Macedonia is a very special location for adventurous winter sports enthusiasts.
